The Promise In the Oxygen

There's supposed to be
A promise in the oxygen--
An unbroken declaration:
Your lungs will allow you to live.
Somewhere between aspiration,
Respiration, Exhalation,
Breathe the handshake contract
Between blood and bronchia
And when your lungs betray you
Wish you had that contract in writing.

T, that makes me think of writing in the fog you breathe onto a mirror, ya know? i'm sure such a written contract is far too appropriate for this

I love how you portray asthma here, a betrayal of nature.

Though the line "Breathe the handshake contract" stands out to me. Everything else flows so smoothly while this jarred me a little. Breathing a handshake seemed to be a little too strange for the analogy.
