Shy Earth and Eager Moon

The Moon comes up,
a bold and bright coin,
and I can’t help but think
we walked there once,
too long ago.

We are a strange pair
of would-be lovers,
having flirted once in passing,
and now, still making eyes
at one another across
the black floor of space.

Imagine what the night
might be like if we could just
buck up the courage
to go and say hello again.
